Missions
A great concern of the congregation at First Congregational church is hunger need both locally and globally. We have addressed these problems in a variety of ways through our mission outreach.
On the last Wednesday of each month a free meal is prepared for all our community members. In the summer there have been picnics complete with ice cream, root beer floats, and a piñata game for the children. The entire community has been supportive of this effort both financially and we have been blessed to have Kinship, the Episcopal church and others volunteer to help prepare and serve meals.
Both adults and youth have been involved in the Kids Against Hunger project that prepares packets of high protein food to feed hungry families around the world.
Second Harvest food distribution brings truckloads of food to Martin County on a regular basis. First Congregational Church is the host agency who works in partnership with other local churches to make this possible. We support the local Salvation Army Food Shelf and in addition to that are working with other churches to provide an additional Food Shelf to enhance the work done by Salvation Army and to provide more opportunities for Martin County people.
Other missions include: Habitat for Humanity, Heifer Project, and School supplies for local students, Kinship, Crest, SERRV, and other local missions.
This church has also been historically committed to Our Church’s Wider Mission of the United Church of Christ which brings mission help regionally and globally.
